What is a tournament bracket generator?
A tournament bracket generator is an online tool that turns a list of teams or players into organized matchups and displays how winners advance through a competition. SportsFirst’s free generator creates a single-elimination knockout bracket, automatically assigns first-round byes when needed, records match results, and identifies the champion.
You can use it to set up a youth football tournament, school basketball competition, esports event, tennis knockout, local club championship, or another head-to-head event. The tool handles the bracket structure; event-specific regulations, player eligibility, venues, officials, and registration remain the organizer’s responsibility.
How to create a tournament bracket online
STEP 01
Enter your tournament details
Name the event and enter 2–64 participating teams or players. Use one unique name per line.
STEP 03
Generate your bracket
Choose “Generate bracket.” The generator organizes rounds and automatically inserts first-round byes for non-power-of-two fields.
STEP 02
Choose a seeded or random draw
With seeding, list the highest-ranked participant first. With random draw, participants are shuffled before placement in the bracket.
STEP 04
Enter match scores and share
Save completed scores to advance winners. Print the bracket, export match data as CSV, or copy a link containing the current tournament state.
Example: If 10 teams enter, the tool creates a 16-slot bracket with six first-round byes. Four teams play two first-round matches; the six bye recipients and two match winners make up the eight-team second round.
Free tournament bracket maker: what you can do
STEP 01
Flexible team counts
Generate a bracket for any field from 2 to 64 entrants, including 5-, 6-, 10-, 12- and 24-team events.
STEP 03
Seeded or random pairings
Keep highest seeds apart early in a seeded draw or shuffle the participant list for a random starting bracket.
STEP 02
Automatic bye placement
The generator fills the next power-of-two draw and places byes in the opening round, not as counted wins.
STEP 04
Editable score progression
Save scores to advance the winner. Correcting an earlier result removes affected downstream scores so the bracket remains consistent.
STEP 05
Print, CSV and sharing
Print or save PDF using your browser, export a match list in CSV format, or copy a share link with the current results.
STEP 06
Browser-based workflow
No account is needed. Save and restore the current bracket on this device; no tournament database is required for this standalone page.
How to make a tournament bracket fair and easy to run
-
Publish the format first. Explain whether teams have one or two lives, how results are verified, and whether a third-place match is included.
-
Confirm participant eligibility. Division, age, roster and registration rules are specific to the organizer and are not checked by this bracket maker.
-
Choose the draw method openly. Use seeded placement when rankings matter and a random draw when the organizer’s rules call for a blind draw.
-
Confirm tie-resolution rules. This tool needs a decisive score in every played match; resolve ties or forfeits under your sport’s rules before recording the result.
-
Keep a final published copy. Export the CSV and PDF after confirming match results. A shared URL may be reused as a planning link but is not a live multi-user tournament database.
