AUGUST EDITION 2026
Futsal moves faster than any sport on earth. Your AI needs to keep up.
Five players a side, a court the size of a basketball floor, and a ball that barely bounces - futsal compresses more decisions into less space than any other team sport. That's exactly why it's become one of the fastest-growing proving grounds for on-ball AI: the global AI-in-sports market is already valued at roughly $13.1B in 2026 and is projected to grow at a 20.56% CAGR through 2035, with computer vision among its fastest-expanding segments. This issue: what we shipped, the numbers behind futsal's rise, and where to find our AI work across every sport we build for.

SF BUILT
FutsalIQ: match footage in, coaching-ready data out
We shipped a computer-vision layer built specifically for the 40x20m box — it watches match footage from a single phone camera and auto-tags every touch, turnover, and rotation. No wearables, no stadium rig, just a tripod and a court. Coaches in our closed beta are already cutting video-review time dramatically and catching pivot patterns that move too fast for the eye alone.
87% touch-tagging accuracy in closed beta, phone-camera footage only
Review time down from ~3 hours to ~22 minutes per match
14 clubs and academies onboarded so far
FUTSAL MOMENTUM
Futsal's 2025-26 season just reset the record books again
Early 2026 alone delivered three continental championships back-to-back: the AFC Futsal Asian Cup in Indonesia, the UEFA Futsal EURO across Latvia, Lithuania and Slovenia, and the CONMEBOL Copa América de Futsal in Paraguay, where Brazil lifted a record 12th title. FIFA's May 2026 world rankings update folded in hundreds of new results from that stretch and added five new nations to both the men's and women's tables, with Brazil holding top spot in each - clear proof futsal's competitive base keeps widening.
→ 2026 CONMEBOL Copa América de Futsal (Paraguay): Brazil's record 12th title
→ FIFA Futsal World Rankings, May 2026 update: 321 new men's matches and 84 new women's matches logged since the previous edition
→ Five new national teams added to both the men's and women's FIFA Futsal World Rankings in the same update
INSIGHT WORTH KNOWING
Small courts are becoming the cheapest place to train a sports model
Coaches have long pointed to futsal's much higher touch count per player compared with 11-a-side football as the reason academies use it for technical development. That same density more repetitions, tighter space, cleaner camera angles - is exactly what makes futsal an efficient, low-cost dataset for training on-ball AI models, well before those models are ready for a full-size pitch.
→ Global futsal market: an estimated ~$0.55B in 2026, projected toward ~$1.25B by 2035 (~9.63% CAGR)
→ FIFA estimates more than 30 million people play futsal worldwide
→ 163 FIFA-affiliated national federations now field a men's futsal team, up from a much smaller base two decades ago
BY THE NUMBERS · REGION BY REGION
Where futsal's growth is actually coming from
Futsal's growth story looks different depending on where you're standing:
→ South America: the sport's spiritual home; Brazil won a record 12th Copa América de Futsal title in January 2026 (27 matches, 115 goals scored) and holds the FIFA #1 ranking in both the men's and women's game
→ Europe: deep club and federation infrastructure, with the 2026 UEFA Futsal EURO hosted across three countries (Latvia, Lithuania, Slovenia) and the UEFA Futsal Champions League final drawing a record 8,442 fans for a neutral-venue club fixture
→ Asia-Pacific: the fastest-growing region by most industry estimates; the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup qualifiers alone drew 31 competing teams across 45 matches and 296 goals (6.58 per match)
→ North America & MEA: smaller base today, but accelerating as youth academies add futsal alongside traditional football for technical development
FUTSAL IN MOTION
The sport that never stands still
Every save, every celebration, every tight turn in a 40x20m box this is the density of movement our models are learning to read.
FROM THE PODCAST
Five Players, No Room to Hide: Futsal as the Last Honest Sport

Sion Kitson, Head of Development & Technical Lead, England Futsal
We sat down with a futsal youth-academy coach and a sports-data founder to talk about why futsal exposes decision-making flaws that a bigger pitch hides, and how AI tracking is starting to quantify what scouts always saw but couldn't prove.
CEO SPOTLIGHT · SPORTSFIRST

"Everyone's racing to put AI on the 11-a-side game because that's where the money is. But futsal is where the actual decision-making happens fastest - half a second, no space, no excuses. If we can teach a model to read that, reading the bigger pitch is the easy part."
OPEN LANE
Most futsal clubs are still coaching off gut feel and phone footage
AI-driven video and performance tooling has reached the top of football, basketball, and tennis. Futsal, despite its global federation base and rising participation, is still mostly untouched. That's a wide-open lane:
→ Computer Vision Engineer, FutsalIQ, remote, full-time
→ Facility partners wanted futsal booking & analytics pilots across India & SEA
→ Beta testers wanted youth academies and 5v5 clubs, applications open now
